So what do the users and vendors in the IT industry have to say about information technology trends in the new year?
“Distance and location will stop to matter. Knowledge sharing and pooling will be the buzzwords with intranets forming the backbone of corporate information interchange. Internet will be the preferred enterprise messaging infrastructure that would enable the seamless transfer of voice, data and video information”
Rahul Nanda, country manager.
Lotus Development (UK) Ltd., India Liason Office

· Intranets will become more popular
· Microprocessor will encroach into consumer electronics in a bigger way
· Network PC/TV Top Box Computing will become popular
· More decentralized computing in a network environment
· Proliferation of international brands, demise of grey market, and less of local manufacturing.”
K. Ganesh.
CEO, IT & T. Enterprises (P) Ltd.

“Internet working would be firmly taken as the gateway to organizational/business success.”
S.K. Gosain,
Controller IT, Indo Rama Synthetics Ltd.

“Starting 1997 and in the coming years IT trends in India will begin to parallel more closely the scenario in the developed world. As the economy and market opens up and competition intensifies, more and more corporations will be gin to use IT for improving productivity and gaining a competitive edge, rather than simply computerizing up back office functions like pay roll, accounting etc.
In the develop world it has moved from the back office to the front office and the forward areas of the company, where decisions are being made.
This will now begin to happen in India. For example, we should see many more companies b                     eginning to look at ERP solutions, data warehousing and business intelligence tools.
Saurabh Srivastava
Managing Director, IIS Infotech

“There will be more usage of the Internet. And Networking will be the key issue”.
Ajay Verma
 Deputy manager – IT, GHCL

“There will be a move from developed system to packaged software.
Ashok Kumar, assitant general manager.
