Hindustan Times : July 4, 1993

Blantant lie
Sir, — Kindly refer to the article on Atigarh published in ‘The Hindustan Times’ Sunday Magazine dated July 4, 1993.
Apart from other inaccuracies and distortions the story is mar red by the following blatant untruths:
The statement that the enquiry committee found is as a matter a matter of fact that claims amounting to Rs 3,20,912 were prepared and a utilisation certificate was signed by Ms Najma Akhtar, then Deputy Controller and counter- signed by V-C Prof. M. N. Farooqui twice or thrice on the basis of the same claim is a total lie. The committee never held so. And Prof. M. N. Farooqui was not even V-C at the relevant time upto July 1990 to which period the re port belongs. — Yours etc.

Sir, - I was astonished to see the write-up entitled ‘Degeneration of a University’ by Osama Manzar, appearing in the Sun day Magazine July 4, 1993, in which the following statement has been attributed to me:
The recently concluded Executive Council meeting be sides constituting a four- member committee, “on the suggestion and proposal of the Proctor to review and look into the general law and order situation, to find out the fault in the present system and suggest the remedy and result for improving the discipline in the University, has also decided to institute an enquiry into the alleged mis use of funds by the University authorities, says A. K. Kazi, the Registrar.”
I deny the above statement vehemently because the writer did not see me at all or talk to me. The above version is his own. It is an attempt to defame me. It has pained me very much. I again reiterate that I do not know Mr Osama Manzar who never met me. — Yours etc.,
