Way of life in BAU
Independent : Aug. 26, 1990
Osama Manzar Hardly there is any university in the country that has been established with the plan and objective of working more for the people around it than for the students studying in it. The Birsa Agricultural University is not I only a university which disseminate education from graduation up to research level but also look after the socio-economic condition of people of entire Chhotanagpur and 13 district of Santhal Parganas. As a whole, it covers nearly 46 percent of the land area of Bihar, including 79 per cent of the forests (22.00,000 hecatres). Though Ranchi has been dramatically developed in the last one decade, but the entire Chotanagpur and Santhal Parganas plateau in a nutshell continued to be betrayed by all affluent and responsible classes. The tribals living in this region are recklessly backward is all walks of life: economically, financially, educationally, politically and intellectually. Above all, they are mentally too weak to cope with the general people around them. Because of which the violence breaks act between backward and forward on the campus. It has been observed, that apart from the students, the societal role of BAU is beyond a point. Since, most of the parts of the Chotanagpur and Santhal Parganas sic densly. In the past nine years of its establishment, the Birsa Agricultural University has never been able to cape from the chronic desease of violence, which is a way of life among the students living in the hotels. Why? The answer could well be found in the statement of veteran Vice, Chancellor of BALI, Dr. H.R. Mishra that the university runs with 85 per cent of the tribals students and only 15 per cent general students and for lack of understanding and mental backwardness, the tribals consider it as their inherited university. On the other side, the general category who come to the institution by didn’t of merit put a demarcation line of attitude, status and superiority. “AS a result the tribals use violent ways to dominate over the forward students by force.” Asked as to why does the tribal villages becomes involved in the internal matter Dr Mishra explained that political tillers are no less active in this area as well. The V.C. however, blaamed the proctorial department for its inefficiency. Moreover, teachers and wardens can play a pivotal role in developing the peaceful and harmonious environment, he said and added that but they are yet to show their ability to till the gap. However, he hopes, that only time can fill the gap of backward and forward classes.
